Not only is Michael a talented pianist and composer, he is also a flourishing producer. He has encouraged and supported the arts in his community by producing many albums for other artists, musical shows and benefit concerts based in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. To date, Michael has produced albums in many different genres for more than twenty artists, including Fred Korman, Oregon Symphony principal oboist; Mark Westcott, concert pianist; Julianne Johnson, jazz and gospel singer; and Tim Ellis, guitarist. |
Michael's philosophy as a producer is to guide and support artists to express themselves authentically. When working with an artist on a recording, he calls on his 20-plus years in the studio and music business and employs his knowledge of the latest audio technology, composing and arranging skills, access to the best studio musicians, relationships with the top studios in Oregon, and connections in the music distribution channels. He has developed a world-class sound with one of the best nine-foot concert grand Steinways ever crafted and has collected some of the best audio equipment to create a beautiful, warm, clean sound that is state of the art.
Recently, he has been collaborating with two gifted artists with two very distinctive styles. Katie Harman, Miss America 2002, is a classically trained soprano suited for opera. Katie wanted to work with Michael to create a timeless classical sound that would be accessible to everyone. Michael wrote all new music for this project and set it to 15th- and 16th-century Italian poetry. He has also recorded a duo with fellow Portland-native Patrick Lamb, one of the best saxophonists in the country. The recording features just Michael and his piano and Patrick and his sax - the true essence of both artists.
